Q. What is The Recycler? How do I know
I can trust you?
A. We've been in business for more than 30 years. And, though we pride
ourselves on being an entrepreneurial company with origins in a Hollywood
garage over 30 years ago, we have a strong reputation in the communities we
serve, and we have every intention of preserving and growing that. For more

Do I have to be a member to use this site?
A. Nope. Anyone can search our 40,000+ ads and place a classified ad without
becoming a member. We do ask that you
register as a site user to place an ad on Recycler.com.

Who uses the Recycler?
A. Everybody! From private parties in San Diego looking to buy their next
car to a person in Santa Monica looking for a room to rent, Recycler.com
offers the marketplace in Southern California. Currently, over 900,000
people look at our Recycler papers each week, and hundreds of thousands
more are coming directly to the web site to buy, sell, and trade. That's
because Recycler offers one of the most efficient marketplaces around,

A. It should come as no surprise that it costs a certain amount to provide free
information and free advertising, especially since ads go online as well as in

Q. How do I pay
for the premium services on your site?
A. We are only charging for limited services: Photo Plus! Ads, Upgrades to ads and our Auto ad packages. Searching
the database and placing a basic ad are FREE! To pay, select one of our 2 payment options based on whether you create your ad online or via the phone:
- Online - Credit Card by Real-Time Secure Server: You may use our secure
server to pay for ads with a credit card.
- Phone - Credit Card by Phone: Contact our Customer Care department to create an ad. We have a customer service representative available to process transactions by credit card Monday-Friday
9AM-6PM PST (excluding holidays). Please call 1-800-300-2777 (option 3).

I try to log in, but I keep getting sent back to the
login screen. What gives?
A. You may be entering an incorrect username and/or
password (Remember: your password IS case sensitive) or
you may be using a browser that does not support

Q. How do I change my personal
information?
A. You need to be
logged in. Once logged in, you can change your
personal information. Be sure to click the "Submit"

Do you guys own all this stuff?
A. As amazing as it may seem, No. We offer classified
advertising to businesses and individuals; we don't buy
the items before we advertise them. If you find an item
you're interested in, please contact the owner of the
item directly via the phone number or e-mail listed.

When is Recycler.com updated with fresh
ads?
A. Constantly! Ads submitted online will appear here
within 24 to 48 hours. Recycler.com is updated with new
or renewed ads from our papers every Thursday morning.

Any search tips?
A. Focus, focus, focus. We've got tons of ads, so the
more focused your search, the more likely you are to
find exactly what you're looking for. In certain
categories, such as cars, we have provided some
specific fields to help guide you through further
refining your search. But, if you're in the mood to
browse in order not to miss that special ad, you may do
so by selecting a specific category or entering in a keyword
and then pressing "Search" to see all the ads in that
category. So, have fun searching!

Place an Ad FAQs
Q. How much does it cost to place an
ad in your papers and online?
A. There is no charge for Basic ads. They are FREE and always will be!
And they go both online and in a paper, thereby maximizing the exposure
of your ad. You may choose to add Upgrades to your ad to make it stand
out in the search results. Features include: bold headline and additional
publication areas. If you would like a photo of your merchandise or
vehicle to be included in the Recycler paper, choose the Photo Plus!
Ad Package. Remember up to 4 photos are always available online for FREE.
Please note that some categories in print and on the web site require a fee,

Q.
How long does my ad run for?
A. Basic ads and Online Only Ads will run for 1 week (unless Upgrades – such
as bold headline, additional print zone, etc. – are purchased, in which case
your ad will run for 2 weeks). Photo Plus! ads run for 2 weeks. Sponsorship
advertisements are booked on a contractual basis and can run for multiple

Do I have to be a site user to place an ad?
A. Yes. All ads placed through Recycler.com require you to be a site user so that you
can modify, renew, or delete your ad at any time. registration
It's free.

Q.
Are ads submitted through Recycler.com published in the
Recycler papers?
A. Every ad (unless you choose an Online Only ad) submitted online will be published in at
least one of our papers, thereby maximizing the exposure of your ad. You have the option of
printing your ads in additional paper for a reasonable fee.

Q.
What is the deadline for submitting ads through
Recycler.com to get in the paper?
A. There is no deadline for ads appearing online, as they come online within 24-48 hours.
However, the deadline to submit ads for Recycler print through Recycler.com is Monday at 12:00 noon (PST).
Ads submitted before then will appear in the paper on Thursday. If you place an ad after
this time, your ad will appear in the following week's paper. So, as a worst case, ads
placed at 12:01PM (PST) on Monday will be placed in a paper ten days later. But online the
next day!

Q.
There isn't a Recycler paper in my area; can I still
submit an ad? Will it still run in a paper?
A. Yes! We welcome ads from outside of the regions covered by our paper publications.
And, yes, even if you live outside of the areas covered by our papers, we will still
print your ad in one of our papers. Why? Because we want to maximize the number of
times your ad is seen. And, who knows: maybe enough people from your area will submit
ads to warrant us opening up a paper there!

Q.
I live in New York; Why is my ad running in the Los
Angeles paper?
A. First, your ad will run online in the area that you are from. If you are from New York,
your ad will run as an ad searchable with all other ads placed in your zip code.
Second, as for the papers: What good does placing an ad in a Los Angeles paper do for someone
in New York? Well, let's put it this way: it can only help, as more people will now be seeing
your ad. In fact, we have seen a tremendous amount of merchandise transferred across the
country, even across the world: to auto enthusiasts, antique dealers, band members looking
for a lead singer, etc. So, our position is this: give everyone the opportunity to have
their ad printed in a paper, as well as online, in order to give them as much exposure
as we have in our powers to do. And, as we add papers, we'll put your ad in the paper
closest to you.

Q.
How many ads can I place?
A. You may place up to 4 free ads at any one time. After that, you must either delete an
ad or purchase Upgrades, which is a Basic ad with special paid features (e.g. a bold
headline) or a PhotoPlus! ad. Ad Upgrades and Photo Plus! ads receive increased
visibility and preferred placement during searches, thereby making your ad more
likely to be noticed.

What are the different types of ads I can
place?
A. Private-parties and businesses can place a Basic ad for FREE, an Online Only ad for
FREE, an ad with Upgrades (additional print zones, etc.), a Photo Plus! Ad
(with a photo in the print Recycler) or choose from one of our ad packages. Businesses can place a variety of
sponsorship
advertising opportunities.

Q.
What are an Ad Upgrades?
A. Upgrades take the Basic ad up a notch. All Upgrade ads automatically are sorted first
during a search, and the more features you add, the higher up your ad goes. Upgrades
include: a bold headline, multiple publication areas. These Upgrades can be added to
any Basic ad.
Our experience shows that Upgrades increase the number of times your ad is seen by at
least 33% – sometimes more than doubling it. And in a world where time is a
diminishing commodity... Please see our list of

Q.
Will my photo submitted to Recycler.com run in the
paper too?
A. No, not with a Basic Ad, but the text of your ad will. If you would like a photo
to run in the Recycler paper, choose to
purchase a Photo Plus! Ad. You can also contact one of our
local offices and ask to
place a photo ad.

Q.
Can I submit the same ad in more than one Recycler print edition?
A. Yes. This represents one of our ad Upgrade features (see our list of products and
services for a complete description of all these features). After you have submitted the basic text of your ad, you will be presented with the option to have your ad published in more than one paper. All Basic ads automatically get published in one paper. Online Only ads do not get published in print.

Q.
What if I can't find a category that exactly describes
my item?
A. With over 300 categories, we hope that we have one that best
captures what you are trying to sell. However, if you really feel
that there is no category that is just right, book your ad in the
category that best captures what it is you are trying to sell and
e-mail us. Please
include your phone number and ad number in your
message so we can locate your ad. And, as this is an interactive
medium, we will modify our category structure based on the comments
we do receive. After all, we want this to work for you.

Q.
When will my ad appear on Recycler.com?
A. All free ads enter our database and are searchable within 48 hours after
submission; the same goes for ads booked with a credit card.
This also applies for renewals. If you renew a free or paid ad, it will begin
its new run once the first run has ended. If you renew your free ad as a
PhotoPlus! ad or an ad with Upgrades, your original
ad will run until its original end date. Your renewed and upgraded ad will not run until after the prior ad expires.

Q.
When will my ad appear in a Recycler paper?
A. For the Recycler magazine, if you submit your ad online before Monday at 12:00 noon (PST), then your ad will run in the next Friday magazine. For the 'Buys books, if you submit your ad online before Monday at 5:00PM (PST), then your ad will run in the 'Buys book published the next Thursday. If the ad is submitted after these deadlines, then your ad will appear in the following week's edition.

I submitted an ad, but it didn't appear in your paper.
Why not?
A. One reason could be that you missed the Monday, 12:00 noon (PST) ad submittal
deadline, in which case your ad will appear in the following week's paper. If
that is not the case, then your ad may be in the process of being reviewed by
a customer service representative. If you
do not see your ad, please don't hesitate to
e-mail us
, but please let us know
the phone number under which you submitted the ad, as well as your ad number,
so that we may track the ad down expediently.

I placed an ad and it did not appear online the next
day. Why not?
A. All ads submitted online will be posted within 48 hours provided that all payments and attachments have been processed and the ad meets all placement guidelines. If your ad is not online within 48 hours, please contact our Customer Care department at 1-800-300-2777 (option 3).

How can I renew my ad?
A. You can easily renew your ad from your account. Free ads may only be renewed 3 times. After that point, you must renew your ad with power features. All paid ads - power ads and business ads - can be renewed as often as needed.

I sold my item; how do I delete my ad?
A. First off, Congratulations! That's what we are all about. You can delete your ad from your Recycler.com account. Just log in.

I want to lower my price or change a word in my ad.
How do I do that?
A. Log into your Recycler.com account. You can modify your ad from the "Ads" tab.

How can my business advertise in a section of
Recycler.com?

What if I don't want my phone number to appear in the
paper?
A. If you want your ad to be printed in the paper you
must provide your phone number. We we will
not publish your ad unless your phone number is
provided (we need it to track your ad in case there are
any questions you have about it). Including your phone
number also helps as many people to get in touch with
you (unfortunately, not everyone has access to the
Internet) to increase the likelihood that your item
will be purchased.

Can you guarantee that I will sell my item?
A. We put your ad in front of as many people as we
possibly can, but we can't guarantee success. In fact,
please take a second to read our
company description
to understand the value of advertising on Recycler.

Q.
How do I include a photo with my ad?
A. Over the web: All of Recycler.com's Basic ads and Online
Only ads include up to 4 photos for FREE. To do so, go to Sell
It.
On the page where you compose your ad, you will be presented with
the option of adding photos. Using our online photo submission process
and a photo that is already saved somewhere in your computer, all you need
to do is click into one of the photo wells that are on the submission page
and your photo can be automatically uploaded. For more details about this,
please see our Online Photo Submission
FAQ page.
Our online photo submission process will only work on newer browsers,
if you are using a Macintosh or an older browser you can still send us a
photo through e-mail. Just select the photo option and follow the remainder
of the instructions. Once you have completed your transaction, you can e-mail your photo
to us at photos@recycler.com. At this time, we can only process photos that are in the
approriate .gif or.jpg electronic format (i.e., no photos by mail). For the sake of our readers, we recommend that your photo be no more than 30k
in size, as your ad may never be seen if the photo takes too long to download. Please
save your image file as your adnumber.jpg or adnumber.gif. You must save your image
with your ad number or we will not be able to link your photo to your ad. Please
address your e-mail to photos@recycler.com. Please be sure to use your photo
application's attachment feature. Please make sure the image meets the above
memory requirements. We reserve the right to review all photos before
posting on the site, and photo ads will not appear online until they have been
approved for ad content and payment has been processed.
If you wish to place a photo in the paper, you can choose to purchase a Photo Plus!
ad on Recycler.com. If you do not have an electronic version of your photo, you will need
to contact a local Recycler classifieds office. Arrangements can be made to send a
photographer out to you to take the picture.

Advertising Information
& Guidelines
Please check

disclaimer before placing any ads.
Information
- All ads submitted will be published online
24 to 48 hours after submission upon
review.
- Ads are not considered submitted if they
are pending
payment.
- Refunds: Recycler Classifieds will not be responsible for
errors made by the customer while submitting their advertising. Should
a customer detect an error in their advertisement, it is the responsibility
of the customer to go online and modify the ad. Upgrades may not be modified
until the ad is renewed. It is the responsibility of the customer to contact
Recycler Classifieds via email to Support@Recycler.com within two (2) days of
detecting any other errors in order for Recycler Classifieds to investigate
the situation. In no case shall error credit exceed the prepaid cost of the
advertisement for one week. All error credit is applied to future subscriptions - NO REFUNDS.
Guidelines
- Limit of 4 FREE private-party ads per person per
week. Extra ads will be deleted.
- Limit of one free ad per week for each vehicle
type (car/truck, van or 4WD/motorcycle). Limit of
four private-party ads per twelve month period for
each vehicle type.
- Advertisers may place unlimited Photo Plus ads and ads
with Upgrades.

Ads
containing words in ALL CAPS will be
deleted.
-
Ads
without proper use of spaces will be
deleted.
-
Ads
with excessive characters (@@##$$~~!!) or HTML will
be deleted.

All
ads must contain a lot price or complete price range
(low-high) or will be
deleted.

Ads
that are deemed prank in nature will be
deleted.

Limit of 1 category per free ad. Free ads placed
in multiple categories will be
deleted.

All
duplicate free ads will be
deleted.

Recycler.com reserves the right not to publish
any ad that does not follow the policy of the
publisher.

Buyer & Seller Safety
Tips
Recycler.com works hard to maintain a fun
and friendly environment in which buyers and sellers
are honest and trustworthy. To help promote smooth
transactions, Recycler.com would like to remind you
about some important steps you can take to ensure that
your buying and selling experiences on Reycler.com are
enjoyable and hassle free.
Here are a few safety tips to keep in mind.
These tips are not designed to scare you, but to
encourage you to be smart, use common sense, and have
fun.
- Know who you are dealing
with
Transactions are between buyers and sellers,
so it's important to know who you're dealing with.
Deals should only go forward if buyers and sellers are
comfortable with each other and with the terms of the
sale.
Buyers: Contacting the seller is an excellent
way to learn more about the item, shipping/transaction
location, and accepted methods of
payment.
Sellers: Get to know your buyer by requesting
contact information.
Remember, your best safeguard when making any
purchase is common sense. If an item seems to good to
be true, do some research before completing your
transaction. Buyers should be cautious if the seller
requests money to be sent to a different location than
is in the ad/auction itself. Recycler.com does not
endorse or verify the information contained in any
ad.
- Keep records of all
correspondence
Hold on to any email, notes, shipping
documents, and payment information. Be sure to print a
copy of the ad! These records may prove useful in the
rare event that you need to seek a refund from a seller
or report an incident of fraud.

If you have any concerns regarding an
ad/auction on Recycler.com, please do not hesitate to
email support@recycler.com.
Recycler.com does not endorse any 3rd party payment services and does not have its own escrow service. If you receive information from a buyer or seller stating otherwise, please do not complete the transaction and notify our Customer Care department immediately at Support@recycler.com.
For your additional protection when buying an item, you may choose to use an escrow service. An escrow service will hold your payment until you have received, inspected and approved the item. Only then does the escrow service pay the seller. One qualified escrow vendor is www.escrow.com; Recycler users may want to consider using such services for purchases of $500 or more (Tips For Choosing and Using Online Escrow Services)
If you believe that a buyer or seller is
involved in fraudulent activity, you can take action by
contacting the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center
at www.ic3.gov. You can also submit reports of fraud
through the National Consumer League's online
information center at www.fraud.org.
Recycler.com does not mediate between the
buyers and sellers in disputes regarding incidents of
fraud of any type. Buyers and sellers are responsible
for all aspects of the transaction in which they
participate.
