Brutus is a happy, quirky, funny! little guy full of love and brimming with enthusiasm to please. His early life experience hasn't squelched his joy nor personality. It has left him with challenges he faces and is eager to conquer. He gives 110% every day and is a fast learner. He has embraced family life well & is joyful in the home environment. He needs a family that will approach him with patience & love, and not push his trust until he is comfortable. After he is sure of safety & stability, he is your happy shadow and best friend. Brutty struggles with Alpha Male issues and anxiety. He desperately wants to belong and bond. In a pack, he takes the lead. One on one, he counts on his person to take charge as the leader. He loves the outdoors, as well as a nice soft bed. He has some vision issues- shadows confuse him a little, and he chases them. He has a little GERD, that seems anxiety based. He does not have food aggression, and is a healthy eater. He will occasionally, give his cookies to others willingly and shares his toys freely. He is very fond of tennis balls- and is happy to busy himself tossing & chasing. He does do really well as a bonded pair though he does best with female dogs and should not live with other male dogs. He has grown close to his Shih Tzu sister and they actively play & entertain one another. He has problems in large pack settings, and over compensates by acting like a bully. (He's a lot of huff & noise and does his best to be a little menace to establish dominance in a pack.) The dog park isn't a comfortable place for him at this time- I think he could learn to enjoy it, with training: He is really smart & a clever little man. Whatever happened to him in early life has made him believe he has to protect himself expect harm in a pack setting. He may have been taunted or used as bait in a group environment: Per his evaluation with a trainer. Brutus' greatest desire is to be loved unconditionally &;forever. He craves acceptance & guidance, and will need understanding and patience as he learns the rules of his forever home. Once he feels safe & stable- he blossoms and is eager to please, but needs help gently understanding, firm boundaries. He was almost certainly confined & abused as a pup. He is fearful of loud noises: he cowers and anticipates reprisal & is very fearful as though he might be struck. But once sure of his safety- he is personality plus & so eager to do good. He loves people, loves being praised, and will do great with a forever fur friend who isn't an Alpha. He would be fine with a mellow cat unfazed by a busy curious pooch. (The rule is, anything that runs~wants to be chased.) He also seems to do best with women vs men. He sings to the sound of sirens quite lovely if off tune but with conviction & gusto, he is naturally a really funny entertaining guy. His greatest comfort & sign of acceptance is nesting in the big bed & sleeping family style. He loves people & kids. He cannot be crated without behavioral set back. If confinement is needed, a baby-gated space would work best for Brutty. Brutus is a true character. He is that goofy stubborn love, who will melt your heart with his angelic eyes, make you laugh on the worst of days, and run you through your paces to earn an unconditional love that your efforts are well compensated for. Brutus' ideal home is patient & willing to help him achieve his best self. He would LOVE a fenced yard to explore & play ball in. He thrives on praise, and is really an amazing little guy who is so worth your time. He will need to wear his Belly Band while he adjusts to his new home: lest he will mark until he feels safety & ownership of his surroundings (Appx. 1-2 weeks). due to his past early confinement memory, when he probably had to use his crate as a potty. He has traveled with me, and he does great. His "safety/comfort" is in his people, not a location. He is a great buddy for road trip, adventure, or just quiet family time. He is a crazy little bundle of greatness who needs his furever home, to reach his fullest and most goofy great self. Are you up for this worthwhile and forever love?
