BUTIA Capitata Zones 8, 9, 12-24; H1, H2 Native to Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, the "South American Jelly Palm". Very hardy, slow-growing palm to 10ft. tall, with a crown of feathery gray green, arching leaves spreading 10-15ft. wide. Heavy trunk is patterned with stubs of old leaves; tree is more attractive if stubs are all trimmed same length.
