Turn your clutter into cash.

With the economy still working its way back, everyone could use a little extra income these days. Taking on a second job is rarely the solution for someone looking for a couple extra bucks. Using online classifieds, on the other hand, is something everyone can do.

We all accumulate way too much stuff. Christmas and birthday parties often means a handful of gifts that we may use a couple of times, if at all.

My father has a collection of kitchen tolls and appliances that he has requested for presents in the past. Most of them have yet to be removed from the box.

One Christmas he was given three waffle makers. He made waffles twice with one of them and has yet to use either of the other two. He claims that he’ll use it when people come over for breakfast (no one ever comes over for breakfast). My father also refuses to get rid of his two unused waffle makers.

Don’t be like my dad. If you have something laying around the apartment or house that you don’t need or don’t use, don’t hoard it. Instead, use online classifieds to sell the excess items you have.

At recycler.com, we provide a simple, straight-forward listing process that will allow you to get your items posted in barely no time. Since online buying continues to be the more and more prevalent weapon of choice for shoppers, you should consider doing your spring cleaning a little early. Clear out that excess clutter and makes some money in the process.

The German shorthaired pointer was developed in for hunting in Germany. Because they needed to be fit for hunting, the German shorthaired pointer is a very active breed that loves to run around and play. Shorthaired pointers love being able to play outside, so they make for great companions for active owners.

And that’s exactly what Hagen is looking for. He recently arrived at a Southern California rescue and is looking for a fun-loving owner that will have a great time with him.

Hagen is just as sweet as Haagen Dazs! He is an adorable dude who’s a compact size. He’s a love bug, is quite energetic and rides well in the car. He’d like a home where he’ll get lots (and lots and lots!) of exercise so he can keep nice and fit.

The United States slowed down on this day nearly 40 years ago. It wasn’t because a tragic moment made us all hold our breath but because of a bill signed into law by President Richard Nixon.

After oil embargoes from OPEC, U.S. citizens were forced to use less fuel and pay more expensive prices when they did fill up. In an attempt to get residents to be more conservative with their fuel consumption, Nixon signed the Emergency Highway Energy Conservation Act on January 2, 1974.

A part of the bill he signed lowered the national highway speed limits to 55 mph. By lowering the limits to more fuel-efficient speeds, the government hoped Americans’ desire for foreign oil would be curbed.

The law didn’t necessarily qualitatively produce the intended results, but the continued higher prices of fuel even after the embargoes were lifted caused Americans to move toward more fuel-efficient Japanese vehicles. Eventually the speed limit law was repealed 20 years later.

Some speed demons never abided by the 55 mph highway speed limit and we’re inclined to believe that if we would have had a 2012 Lexus LFA back then, we would not have been able to abide either.

The LFA comes with a ferocious V10 engine pushes more than 550 horsepower and can jump from zero to breaking Nixon’s speed limit in less than 3.6 seconds. Lexus’ first attempt at an exotic comes with extensive fiber carbon construction.

The price tag for the 2012 Lexus LFA is quite exhorbitant, but just listen to this thing purr in Motor Trend’s First Drive:

The dog originally comes from Northern Europe where it comes from the German Spitz breed. But Americans were more liked (thanks to anti-German prejudice) after World World I, so the dog was renamed the “American Eskimo Dog.”

Sasha is an eight-year-old American Eskimo. She lost her home when her owner died and the remainder of the family couldn’t devote the time to care for little Sasha.

Having been pampered and loved by her owner, Miss Sasha’s socialization and training must have been put on the back burner. She seems to have “had Queen Bee status in her former home, and has found foster care accommodations somewhat lacking! Especially the part about sharing the digs with other dogs.”

As an 80s kid, the first exotic car I fell in love with was the Ferrari Testarossa. It wasn’t because Crockett and Tubbs rode around in a white Testarossa on Miami Vice.

Instead, it was because the sound of the Testarossa accelerating was nailed by various video games. That sound made my ears perk, my eyes light up and my heart swell with admiration for the Ferrari.

I’m just hoping one of you decides to put the keys to the red 1988 Ferrari Testarossa above under my Christmas tree.

When the turkey has been put away at the family Thanksgiving dinner, attention typically turns to two things: football and holiday shopping. While there is little you can do to change your football experience unless you are a super-talented 6-foot-4, 240-pound athlete or a super-rich multi-millionaire that owns part of the team, you can help determine how your holiday shopping experience goes.

Instead of being thrown into the frantic, rough-and-tumbleJingle All the Way situation where you’re wrestling with Sinbad and Arnold Schwarzenegger, here are some tips to make your holiday shopping less painful and possibly even enjoyable:

1. Start Early – The earlier you start the holiday shopping season…the better. If you shop throughout the year, you’re more likely to find the gifts you want to give when they are on sale. Even if you don’t start until the Thanksgiving holidays, you still will have opportunities to shop on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Prices don’t go down as you get closer to the holidays. You aren’t going to find a huge sale on Christmas Eve, so don’t procrastinate. Get out there and get your shopping done early.

2. Make a List – It seems so simple, but making a list and checking it twice isn’t just for Santa Claus. Make a list of those people for which you want/need to buy gifts. No matter how small the gift, write it down. If you can’t remember a person when making your list, I would suggest they aren’t important enough for you to buy a gift for, but that’s up to you, I guess.

When making your list, include gift ideas of what to give each person and definitely include a maximum you’re willing to spend on each individual. By making a list, you can get an idea of what your budget is going to be.

Photo: Sister72/Foter/CC BY

3. Have a Budget- It’s great to have some flexibility in case you see something that you really think fits someone perfectly. But that’s not something you should do with every person. Instead, have a set dollar amount to be at or around for each person on your list. It may not seem like a lot when you go $5 or $10 above your budget for individuals, but those numbers add up really quickly. You’ll leave with lots of bags, as well as an empty wallet and/or a hefty credit card bill.

4. Do Your Research – Use the technology at hand. Look online and narrow down your search to an exact product or idea and then research where you can get the best deal. Check sites, such as Amazon, that have user reviews, so that you don’t end up buying a dud gift. If possible, do your shopping online. December 17 is even “Free Shipping Day,” where you can get free shipping to more than 1700 merchants and get your gifts delivered by Christmas Eve. Do your research, take advantage and get your well researched, long distance gifts delivered before the big holiday.

5. DIY Projects – With the economy still recovering, you may not be able to afford buying everyone Apple products and high definition TVs. If that’s the case, don’t be afraid to try to create something yourself for some people that are on your list. Sites such as Pinterest and Etsy have a number of DIY ideas that you could customize for your gift recipients this year.

Once upon a time, American-made products were crafted to last multiple generations rather than just multiple years. This 1951 Ford Custom Sedan is a gorgeous example. According to its classifieds listing, the ’51 Ford has lasted 61 years with everything but the paint being original. The spare tire is even original.

Ford knew what it was talking about in 1951 when it released this commercial for the Custom:

Even after such a long time, it still “runs and rides like [a] new car.” If true, how could you pass up on buying this beauty and taking her home with you.

This 1951 Ford Custom is listed at $25,750, do you think it’s a good deal or is it just due to break down?

Carrying cash is slowly becoming obsolete.

Personally, I almost never have cash. I try to always get $10 or $20 cash back when I go to the grocery store or to a retail store, but somehow I never have more than one or two George Washington’s hiding out in my wallet.

Generally, it isn’t a big deal. If I go to a restaurant or a store, they all except debit and credit cards. However, I occasionally go to small doughnut shops, farmers markets and other small vendors that previously only accepted cash. But the times are changing.

Smaller merchants now have the option to use iPhone or Android apps to accept credit and debit card transactions. With the usage of dongle card swipers that plug into mobile phone and tablet external headphone jacks, vendors are able to accept the plastics along with cash, giving their consumers more payment options and opening themselves up to more sales.

I’ve bought cupcakes, t-shirts, donated to a charity and purchased several food truck meals using the mobile card swipers.

You can use the same technology to expand your business on recycler.com. If you are selling items through our classifieds listings, you can let your buyers know credit and debit cards are an option to make yourself a more convenient seller.

After a price and location are agreed upon for a local transaction, the buyer can swipe their card on your mobile payment device that is often provided by the apps. From there, the person signs his/her name using the phone’s touchscreen and a receipt is emailed to both parties.

It’s a great tool that works great for both parties. Consider using it to help improve your recycler.com sales.

Adorable Gaston was being offered for free on the roadside with his littermates Marcel and Pierre. Although the rescue group traditionally rescues dogs, they weren’t about to walk away from the three little bunny amigos.

Gaston is now 16 weeks old and the largest of the trio. He has gorgeous shiny black fur with white accents. He is playful, inquisitive and fairly independent. Gaston is an active little guy that “loves zoomies and hopping up on his boxes to peek over his domain. He also enjoys climbing over my legs or behind my back when I join him in the playroom.”

He has been good about using his litter box and he enjoys petting, but he isn’t all that crazy about being held, which is fairly typical of bunnies. If there’s one thing he knows, it’s when it is treat time. He will come scurrying when you tap on the floor.

Gaston has been living with bunny-friendly dogs, and does great with them. He’s unfazed by their presence and would likely do fine with a dog or cat that is accustomed to other animals. He would probably enjoy a bunny buddy, so if you wanted to adopt his brother, Pierre, Gaston would greatly appreciate it.

For adoption information and more photos, click to see Gaston’s full ad on recycler.com.

-
Here at recycler.com we are always trying to enhance your classifieds web experience whether you are buying or selling items (or hopefully, doing both). For our sellers, we’ve tried to streamline the listing process as much as possible, so you can save your time for more important needs.

With that in mind, we recently added a new “Place another Ad” feature. This new feature makes it much easier for sellers to submit multiple ads in one session. Now, with a click of a button, if you are selling items, you can go from the ad placement confirmation page after completing your first ad right to creating a second, or third, or fourth, or umpteen ad.

By being able to skip a lot of clicks in between, sellers will be able to add more ads and spend less time. And more ads from our sellers means more listings and a wider variety of products for our buyers. It’s positive for everyone — a win-win situation for both recycler.com buyers and sellers.

Check it out today and let us know what you think about it.
